“SON RISE” RISES!
NOW ON A LIST! I'm humbled to see my song "Son Rise" on Jazz FM’s A List Playlist this week. To me it's proof that if you make music from your heart, it will find a home. I started my career as a singer and songwriter in London 20 years ago next month, so it's especially sweet to see this music resonate over there. GINO HITS JAZZ FM!
I'm proud to have my new song "Gino" from my album SATISFIED MIND debut on the Jazz FM B List Playlist this week. I wrote this one with famed Tom Waits percussionist and electronic music maven Gino Robair. To me, it sounds like a cross between Philip Glass and Tears for Fears, which is about as accurate a description of my split musical personality as you will find! I’m proud to have another song from my new album SATISFIED MIND featured in this week's Jazziz Magazine Editor's Choice Playlist. This time it's the album's fourth single "Wake Me Up" (feat. Pino Palladino). That track is an homage to my mentor, the master Kenny Barron. So much of what I do at the keyboard can be traced back to my time apprenticing Kenny. His touch, time and phrasing - you can’t help but absorb that kind of grace and gravitas. I wanted to really dig into the piano this time out, because that’s where it all starts for me. A GREAT NIGHT IN LONDON!
It was an unforgettable night at PizzaExpress in London celebrating my upcoming new album SATISFIED MIND, coming July 11. I’ve played this room for nearly two decades, but tonight was extra special, with a packed house, a killer Hamburg Steinway B, the club’s new Vintage Vibe piano, and my ace band. Add to that friends old and new, and guest appearances by Jim Hunt on sax, the great Jeremy Stacey on drums, and my childhood keyboard hero Mike Lindup from Level 42 and you have a night I won’t soon forget. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined the party.
